Welcome Post and invites to Diaspora

As it says in the comm's profile, this is a place to discuss Diaspora. That's about it.

All I know so far is Diaspora seems to have been dreamed up by a few NYU students who didn't like Facebook's policies. I don't know how or if GooglePlus's debut has affected them or their plans, but since GooglePlus isn't going to allow us effective control of our identities and our content's exposure, either, I assume Diaspora's plans are still in place. They are in an alpha release.

I can send you an invite if you leave me an email. Comments here are therefore pre-screened.

I'm on both Google Plus and Diaspora and have found I prefer Diaspora due to privacy issues. I'm not sure people know much about Diaspora as the main stream media continues to pump out either Facebook or Google Plus as the only two choices we have for social networking (sadly)- of course both have been determined to be quite intrusive into your privacy as well.

There are also many people now being spooked away from Google Plus and its current policies. If they want to succeed and get the corner on Facebook then they should actually be the opposite of what everyone hates about Facebook! Doesn't look like that's happening though....

Well, that's what I thought, too. I guess Google must just be a lot smarter than lil ol us. ;-)

Yo! I'm on there, as pretty much everywhere, as Supermouse The Rodent. I've got to admit, having tried Google+ and then being kicked off it for my name was my main spur to trying out Diaspora when the chance was kindly offered to me.

Ahah! I have "added you to aspect" or whatever it's called. I was able to find you today. The other day, shortly after you posted here, Diaspora insisted to me that you didn't exist.

Does this offer still stand? There are some things I'm really curious about in the more recent builds of Diaspora (my pod doesn't seem to have updated in a while? ??? don't even know where to check?), but (as I lament on my own journal) I don't have the skill to test it personally to find out :\

yeah, sorry for being confusing:

- I have an account I've basically not touched on https://poddery.com/ , BUT, they don't seem to appear on http://podupti.me/ anymore, and because of that I don't know if they've updated diaspora recently, nor do I know where I'd check what version is being run there

- I've been trying to get diaspora running (a recent version) on my own machine to compare, but am not having much luck :\

Honestly, I can't remember which pod I'm on, and don't entirely understand the model, yet. I just login at diasp.org. My login, though I haven't used it in months, still works, so if they did an update, my account wasn't affected. I clearly can still send invites.
